Hello, Helmut Newton

Glamorous, Dark and Provocative are only some of the adjectives that are used to describe photographer Helmut Newton's body of work. Perhaps the most imitated and controversial photographer in his time, his pictures of women were both dramatic and disturbing at the same time, and changed the mainstream of fashion publications.

His erotically charged black and white pictures have a voyeuristic feel to them. He photographed some of the most beautiful women of the world in blasé poses unaffected by their glamorous surroundings, heightening their sexuality even more. Another recurring theme was of women dressed in little more than stockings and stilettos towering over men, illuminated by headlights or trapped in a dark alley showing them as perpetrators of clandestine crimes...

...either way Newton's women came across as alluring, assertive and empowered aptly representing the sexual revolution of the 1960s and 70s.  And so here are a few photographs from the photographer's prolific body of work.
